“TASTE IS THE ENEMY OF CREATIVENESS”

We love the title of the exhibition Picasso.Mania held in Grand Palais, Paris. We have all the time we need to schedule our visit and see the great stylistic phases and emblematic works of Pablo Picasso, alongside contemporary creations grouped by artist or theme.

Imagine anything from paintings to films and advertising because that’s what Picasso.mania is all about. It is the first time that Jeff Koons, Jean-Luc Godard and Roy Lichtenstein, among 78 artists, are hung next to a Picasso, to reveal how they were inspired by the Spanish artist’s work. The exhibition’s curator, Didier Ottinger, admitted it took him three years to study the legacy of Picasso for one of the most ambitious exhibitions ever staged at the Grand Palais. Nowadays Picasso seems to be everywhere. Still, the main risk was that some artists might not want their work compared directly with Picasso and Picasso Mania.
Do you remember what he used to say? «Αh! Good taste! What a dreadful thing! Taste is the enemy of creativeness»…
