Jane’s easy, cool girl style epitomized laid back glamour. Her simple mini dresses, slouchy wide leg jeans, slightly disheveled hairdo, skinny turtlenecks, peasant tops, ubiquitous straw tote (it was her go-to before Hermès named a bag after her) and eternally chic French –although she is English-born– style will just never feel outdated.

Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg’s love affair started on the set of Slogan in 1968, and for Jane, it was love at first sight.

The New York-born actress started out working as a model for major fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue before breaking onto the big screen in 1970 with the instant hit Love Story. Her nonchalant yet sophisticated style with a distinct bohemian-meets-preppy look became a defining marker of the 70s era.
