CHANEL CRUISE 2019
LA PAUSA

More than just a tradition, setting out on a journey for the Cruise collection is a highly anticipated rendezvous. It’s the guarantee of a change of scenery, of beaches, of beauty and discovering a place, an era, an “art de vie.”  This season, creative director Karl Lagerfeld brought the boat to dry land, constructing a 330-foot-long ocean liner in the middle of the Grand Palais.
The larger-than-life liner, named La Pause after the villa in the South of France built by founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the 30’s, served as the ultimate backdrop to the fashion house’s nautical-inspired collection.  By now, the designer’s outsize imagination should come as no surprise to any regular guests at his Chanel shows, which in recent seasons have featured a space rocket, a waterfall and a reproduction of the Eiffel Tower. But this was a blockbuster, even by his standards. (WWD)

As for the collection itself, there were plenty of white and navy stripes. Berets, round sunglasses, precious cuffs, fingerless gloves, sautoirs and beaded belts accessorize the silhouettes bursting with freshness. The bags in whites, blues and pinks, have also set sail: the largest are supple and swathed in net-like rope, others are held with rope straps and the saddle bags are beach-ready in printed waxed canvas, perfect for your next getaway on the French Riviera. There was also, of course, no shortage of Chanel’s signature tweed in the form of skirt suits and dresses. Perhaps most striking, however, was the fact that nearly every look was worn with a pair of white tights—an item that’s been passé in the fashion world for quite some time now. Bella Hadid hit the runway in a blue two-piece set accessorized with a tweed beret and pearl belt.
