NUTRIENT-RICH SUMMER FOODS
When it comes to skincare, the saying “you are what you eat” has some truth to it. Whether you’re a skincare junkie or more low-key with your routine, your diet is always going to play a role in the state of your complexion. So, if you’ve been noticing more breakouts or dark circles, it’s time to press the reset button with some nutrient-rich summer foods. Holistic nutritionist Danielle Pashko, gave us the scoop on the natural goodies that deliver the best glow, ever.
DRY SKIN: CUCUMBERS
Cucumbers are incredibly hydrating due to their high water content and because they contain soluble fibers that help with the elimination of toxins. So, you can say goodbye to your morning puffiness. “If you feel bloated, opt for a cucumber salad, cucumber juice or even cucumber-infused water to help combat that swollen look and feel. Cucumbers also contain vitamin C, which further helps to give the skin that coveted well-rested look,” states Danielle.
ACNE-PRONE SKIN: YOGURT
Gut health is having a major moment since it has been linked to acne and overall inflammation. Fermented dairy products like kefir and Greek yogurt are an easy way to balance the bacteria in the gut because they are rich in probiotics. Eat them regularly to stave off sweat breakouts all summer long.
FINE LINES: ΖUCCHINI
Zucchini is an instant detox for your skin as it is high in fiber, contains lots of vitamin C, which helps repair collagen and folic acid, which helps reduce oxidative stress and free radicals. Choose zoodles for a great pasta alternative or as an addition to your next salad to promote firmer, smoother skin.
IRRITATED SKIN: ALOE VERA
Aloe vera not only provides instant relief to burnt skin topically but also can be ingested to soothe redness, calm inflammation and provide long-lasting moisture. Opt for aloe vera juice without sugar to reap the full anti-inflammatory benefit.
