A ZEN PARADISE ON EARTH

Amanemu embraces the ancient Japanese bathing tradition of onsen, using nutrient-rich thermal springs to provide a contemplative and restorative retreat set among serene natural surroundings. An idyllic spot for leisure and relaxation, the heated swimming pool overlooks the surrounding forested hills and Ago Bay. There are 24 suites -the standard room category- and four, two-bedroom villas that resemble the old country farmhouses. From every room, sliding screens open to reveal picture windows, private terraces and views of the bay and the gardens. The spa comprises of treatment rooms, a gym, yoga studio and watsu pool for water-based therapies. The centre piece is the onsen, which is elemental to any Japanese hotel. There are terraces of tiled hot springs interspersed with day beds, lounging pavilions and an outdoor fireplace.
The interiors are a collection of wooden surfaces in warm shades. It feels like being hugged by a tree! The roofs are topped with overlapping slate tiles, like waves across an ocean. The restaurant, with pearl rafts and forests in sight, focuses on Japanese food. Local suppliers provide delicate fruits such as Nabari melons, as well as the renowned Matsusaka beef.

If you dream of the ultimate Zen paradise then Amanemu is the right place to be. Perched on the rolling hills of Ise-Shima National Park in southwestern Japan, this paradise on earth is a hot-spring sanctuary overlooking the calm waters of Ago Bay.
