VIKING SUN
SAILING IN ABSOLUTE LUXURY

We seem to enter a new era in luxury cruising, since 5 star boutique hotel hospitality is now…sailing overseas. The newly built award-winning Viking Sun proves it. It accommodates only 930 guests and has 465 crew members. It features all-veranda staterooms up to 1.440 sq. ft., infinity pool, a spa for holistic therapies and a Nordic Snow Grotto, private dining and cooking courses on local cuisines. The ticket might cost up to 50.000$ per person. But when it comes to visiting a total of 64 ports in 35 countries on 5 continents, it is probably worth it.

Viking Sun is a state-of-the-art ship of Viking Ocean Cruises built in 2017, which costs 340 million euros. She embarked on her maiden voyage in February 2018 on a world cruise lasting 120 days. The concept is to offer destination-oriented experiences. The opening ceremony was held in Shanghai and it was an elegant affair featuring performances by the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. With Shanghai’s soaring skyscrapers, including the iconic Oriental Pearl tower, as a backdrop, Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø, one of the world’s top crossover sopranos, also performed during the event.

THE DECORATION

Viking Sun’s understated elegance is a fusion of modern Scandinavian elements with a touch of Viking Cruises’ staple design pieces. All suites have private balconies, and you may choose among 270-1.448 sq.ft! The decor is soothing in neutrals with lots of Nordic touches, ranging from the art collection to cozy nooks meant to inspire relaxation.

A NORDIC STYLE SPA

The spa offers Nordic-style services. It includes a Snow Grotto where you actually have snowflakes fall from the ceiling. And it’s not just for show -this cold environment is meant to stimulate the circulatory system. To warm up, the sauna is a perfect follow-up option. Or, you just need to unravel and let go by purchasing some of the classic holistic treatments. For additional relaxation there is the Wintergarden lounge, an airy space where one feels like he is in a forest. It is just off the main pool -a perfect place to unwind and partake in the tea ceremony.

GOURMET EXPERIENCES

The Kitchen Table gourmet restaurant is a way for guests to immerse in local cuisines. There is an on board cooking school so they experience first-hand how the ships’ world-class chefs bring distinct, local flavors from market to table. On sea days, guests may learn to cook dishes highlighting an upcoming destination and take home recipes to savor. On port days, they handpick ingredients at local markets, then learn how to prepare regional dishes and create elegant presentations for three courses.

PRIVATE DINING

During a multi-course tasting, the sommeliers and chefs at The Chef’s Table select vintages and serve dishes made for each other. The restaurant’s private dining room provides an opportunity to have an intimate meal with family, business colleagues or friends.

THE THEATER

Ηistory, culture and art are unveiled in the Theater with the comfortable seats and sofas, through lecturers, first-run films, destination-driven movies, live performances and shows, as well as speeches.

Viking Sun’s guests have the opportunity to explore everywhere from the US to the Caribbean, Asia to the Mediterranean, the Panama Canal to the South Pacific and much more in between.
