286 MASTERPIECES
OF STYLE AND FASHION

A century of memories. A social testimony. An art collection. Original photos published in British Vogue since it was founded in 1916 until today, are exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, in London.
From 11 February – 22 May 2016, sponsored by Leon Max.
A remarkable range of photography, favourite photographers -true legends-, 280 highly aesthetic documents. The National Portrait Gallery is hosting an exhibition of fashion magazines and photographs from the Condé Nast archive and international collections to tell the story of one of the world’s most influential fashion magazines. Through the lenses of Mario Testino, Kate Moss, in underwear, military jacket and tulle, is the first image that welcomes us at the exhibition. And while we can always flip through a magazine, fashion instantly becomes art when these photographs are exhibited at a museum. Style acquires a new dimension. It becomes a historical document.

A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME

This exhibition is a calendar for the way we dress, change and return. What do you, really, think when you see Linda Evangelista posing for the lens of Patrick Demarchelier deconstructing the 50s? Besides the top models, the portraits of important personalities, such as Alfred Hitchcock and Charlie Chaplin, share flashes and memories. Α journey back in time. Α display for every decade. For some reason, the past seems more authentic, certainly, less retouched. Can it be because yesterday was more honest and unpretentious?
