Her rags-to -riches story has become legendary and at least its basic facts are now part of fashion mythology, even to those who have no special interest in the fashion world. She went against convention by wearing clothes like a man and her designs were simple and often inspired by menswear. She worked hard to liberate women from fashion’s stereotypes and give them a powerful independence.
