there is a solution for every hair issue

We are not talking about the face, it’s a hair thing. Before wrapping up your holiday luggage, double-check you’ve got everything you may need with you.

You renew the colour just before the holiday season to enhance your skin tone, treat it by cutting out the split ends and make sure it looks and feels healthy with a moisturising ritual at your hairdresser’s. That’s the usual way to prepare your hair before the holidays, right? And during the holidays, you also promise yourself to take good care of it, doing all you have to do. However, thanks to the carefree holiday spirit, you often forget your vows.

And while the sun is certainly not as dangerous for the hair as it is for the skin, it does leave its mark on the colour, the hydration levels and the texture. Each hair type is affected differently by exposure to the sun, air, sea or pool water. Damaged edges, dehydration and dull colour, are the most common symptoms. Choosing the right products -depending on the needs- you can have healthy and shiny hair during the holidays and after.

SPF FOR THE HAIR

Hair doesn’t get along well with the sun, the sea (salted water) and the pools (chlorine). Dehydration and fading colour – especially in highlighted hair or balayage – are the typical outcome: UV radiation makes hair increasingly dry, weak and brittle, as it breaks down hair proteins and weakens the follicles, disrupting the hair’s natural defence mechanisms. So, if you want to help your hair maintain its gloss, shine and intensity of colour, the use of sunscreen is essential.

The solution: While at the beach or by the pool, protect your hair just like you do with your skin. Re-apply your hair sunscreen during sunbathing and after each swim, even if the product is defined as “waterproof”.

WORN EDGES

You can tell over-processed or damaged hair by the rough texture, frizzing, and split ends. Even the best cut or the boldest colour is much less glamorous when the body and ends of the hair are damaged. On the other hand, smooth ends make the hair look beautiful and healthy, even if the colour or cut is unflattering. The hairdryer, chemical procedures and frequent use of styling devices -especially during the holidays- make hair even more fragile. Last but not least, hair that tangles easily, especially after shampooing, is also a sign that it needs special care.

The solution: If you have long hair, wear it up to prevent tangling and the wear that comes from your effort to detangle it. Protect it with sunscreen and wrap it in a loose chignon. In addition to shampoo, conditioners and rich hair masks are a must during the summer and should be on your home care list.
Choose products with enhanced formulas during the holidays and after, and use them for at least 6-8 weeks. After the holidays, pay a visit to your hairdresser, who can help your hair get back on track.

DULL COLOUR

Dyed blonde and red hair do suffer during summer, because they tend to faint more quickly due to the sun, sea salt and chlorine. Also, the chemicals used for the dyeing or discolouration process open the hair scales, thus disturbing its balance, causing damage to the structure and depriving it of its natural lustre. When the hair is weak and damaged by the sun or previous dyes, the colour tends to fade much faster.

The solution: Hair sunscreens protect the dyed hair, while moisturising masks are the “guardian angel” of hair of any colour throughout the summer. If the fading is not excessive, treat it with special products for dyed hair to repair part of the damage. We also recommend leave-in conditioners that offer hydration and colour “lock” throughout the day.

DEHYDRATION

Its colour fades with chlorine, salt water dehydrates it, and the air dries it out, making it look wild -and not in a fashionable way. So help your hair “prepare”. The healthier it is at the beginning of the summer, the less damage you’ll have to deal with at the end.
Whatever the cause* of dehydration, your hair reacts pretty much the same way; its natural, protective oils are shed, leaving it dehydrated and weak. Just keep in mind that hair is as thirsty for moisture as the skin after a day of exposure to the sun and sea.

Τhe solution: Intensive hydration is the most important step, using shampoo, conditioner and mask suitable for dehydrated hair. The formula locks the moisture in the scales of the hair and improves the texture almost immediately. First, wet your hair with fresh water before diving in the sea or the pool. The hair absorbs and retains a certain amount of water, so your hair will absorb less salt or chlorine if you do this trick. Repeat when you get out of the water, quickly rinsing out salt or chlorine before they can get absorbed by your hair and dry it out.
Finally, if possible, avoid using a hairdryer or straightening iron because they essentially “ruin” all you are trying so hard to fix with products and tricks. If you have to use either, do so with the help of a heat protection product.

We suggest: Hydration product line Nutriplenish, or Sun care hair and body cleanser
