dry brushing: THE NOW-TRENDING TECHNIQUE THAT TRANSfORMS THE SKIN

Whether you are a beauty maniac or not, you have probably heard or read about dry brushing (or dry exfoliation), the technique that is done with a single gadget and requires just minutes of your time.

Until recently, we only knew about body dry brushing, but lately, face dry brushing emerges as a dynamic trend, emphasising that skincare, especially cleansing and exfoliation, will never stop being high on our priority list. Indulge yourself in the benefits of this simple but miraculous technique all experts are talking about and upgrade your beauty routine.

the technique of dry brushing

Face dry brushing is, essentially, skin exfoliation without the use of water. To implement the technique, you only need a special face brush, preferably with natural hair, which should be used on completely dry skin, making gentle and circular massage movements. You will soon begin to see the beneficial results of dry brushing on your skin.

THE BENEFITS

EXFOLIATION

Until recently, you, like most women, were used to exfoliating your skin with commercial products or DIY scrubs made in your own kitchen, and you probably were quite happy with the results. But if you trust the dry exfoliation, you will be thrilled: the brush’s movement on your dry skin mechanically removes more dead cells and impurities, while, at the same time, it activates the skin, helping it implement its natural exfoliating process.

BLOOD CIRCULATION

Dry brushing on the face creates mild hyperaemia, which, in turn, activates blood circulation throughout the face. Over time, your skin looks more radiant and healthy.

SMOOTHING OUT FINE LINES & WRINKLES

Regular implementation of face dry brushing helps to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Give special attention to those areas that are prone to wrinkles, such as the forehead, around the mouth, and the crow’s feet, where expression wrinkles tend to appear more easily.

FIRMNESS AND EVEN SKIN TONE

Dry brushing massage stimulates muscle tone, activates facial microcirculation and contributes to better blood flow. As a result, you have an overall improvement in how the skin works, which affects and improves the score on all age indicators, such as firmness and even skin tone.

GOOD SPIRITS

Dry brushing can create a sense of euphoria, the same one you get every time you enjoy a body massage. The mood is better, the stress is less, and you will soon start feeling more cheerful and full of confidence. A mini spa ritual at home!

THE RITUAL

  • Dry brushing is a technique you can easily do alone, on your own face, as long as you use the right brush. You better pick a small round-shaped brush to facilitate the process as they are more compatible with the massage’s circular moves.

  • The beauty industry guru, CEO of Aromatherapy Associates, Director of Strategy & Innovation of Modern Botany and dry brushing fan, Tracey Woodward, suggests starting massaging from the décolleté, with small, circular movements towards the shoulders and upwards (neck area). Continue around the mouth and eyes, and end up in  the nose and outwards, towards the cheekbones and the forehead.

  • Avoid pressure around the eye area. A simple touch with the brush is enough to activate the skin without causing irritation.

  • Do not worry if your skin flushes and becomes a little red  -it’s due to the improvement of the blood flow in the skin and epidermis.

  • For extra toning, splash plenty of cold water on your face once you have finished the procedure of dry brushing.

  • Complete your skincare routine with your favourite products (serum and cream or face oil).
